A 7-week-old spotted hyena cub explores the area around its den in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, while its mother looks on. The cub, still in its natal coat of fur, has already started to learn which clanmates its mother associates with most closely. This months-long learning process is most likely the mechanism by which young hyenas "inherit" their mothers' social networks.

The data reveal a layered crust, a mantle with a thick lithosphere, and a liquid iron-nickel core enriched in light elements, suggesting that Mars formed and evolved differently from Earth.

A hundred years after the discovery of insulin, type 1 diabetes remains a chronic disease that requires lifelong daily management. This includes monitoring food intake, measuring blood glucose via finger pricks, and administering insulin shots through needles or, more recently, insulin pumps and continuous-loop devices. Improving treatment with cell therapies and delaying symptom onset with prevention strategies should enhance the future management of the disease.
